Sunny Deol, Actor of Gadar 2, Acknowledges Film's Impact on Cross-Border Relationships

Gadar

Remaining a cornerstone of Sunny Deol's illustrious filmography, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha retains its cherished status among Indian viewers, even after the passage of 22 years since its premiere.

Against the evocative backdrop of the partition era, the movie intricately weaves the tale of a Sikh gentleman and a Muslim lady, originally slated to relocate to Pakistan alongside her family. In the midst of the tumultuous historical setting, their shared past as college companions offers a sanctuary, and over time, their connection evolves into a profound and genuine affection.

Movie's sequel, Gadar 2 shows the cross-border relations

As the actor readies himself for the impending launch of the movie's sequel, Gadar 2, he openly shared his stance regarding narratives of cross-border romance. He passionately championed the idea of people wholeheartedly accepting and honoring the diverse paths others choose in their life journeys.

During an insightful conversation with Aaj Tak, the interviewer directed Sunny Deol's focus towards this subject by invoking the names of two individuals, Seema Haider and Anju. Seema Haider, a resident of Pakistan, ventured to India to unite with her "lover" from Greater Noida. Meanwhile, Anju traversed international borders to be reunited with her Pakistani "friend".

In response to inquiries about whether his films were inspiring individuals to forge cross-border relationships, Sunny Deol responded with a light-hearted chuckle, stating, "I don't think so... Nowadays, technology has made it possible for people to connect through apps. Once emotions develop between them, the inclination to meet and share their lives naturally follows. Rather than passing judgment or involving ourselves in such matters, it's crucial to honor their decisions, as these pertain to their private lives. The determination of whether it's right or wrong rests with them."

He further added that he rarely stays updated with current events. "From my early days, I hardly ever read newspapers or tuned into news broadcasts. My attention was primarily directed towards the sports section. Nowadays, news seems to have transformed into a commodity."

Demonstrating his distinct approach to life and openly admitting his unfamiliarity with industry factions, he stated, "I'm completely unaware of how to engage in the game of flattery, and the notion of industry cliques eludes me. I hold no inclination to adopt that actor persona. My ambition is straightforward: if my work garners your appreciation, I'll be here; if it doesn't, then I won't. My presence hinges on my skill; if I possess the talent, I'll be visible; if not, I won't. I have a firm grip on reality and steer clear of existing in an artificial realm."
