The mastermind behind the heinous suicide bombing that shook Kabul airport during the US troop withdrawal in August 2021 has reportedly been killed by the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

The mastermind behind the heinous suicide bombing that shook Kabul airport during the US troop withdrawal in August 2021 has reportedly been killed by the Taliban government in Afghanistan. US officials have confirmed the news, and although the identity of the Islamic State cell leader killed has not been disclosed, he was believed to be a key plotter and overseer of plotting for ISIS-K.

The airport was targeted by a suicide bombing resulting in the deaths of approximately 170 Afghan individuals and 13 US soldiers who were there to provide security. The bombing in Afghanistan, which resulted in a high number of fatalities, has been regarded as one of the most lethal attacks in the country in recent times.

Moreover, the incident has caused many to criticize President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan almost two decades after the US invasion.

While the US officials have confirmed the killing, they have maintained that the US was not involved in the raid and that the Taliban carried out the operation. Although the US has not disclosed the time and place of the raid, they have indicated that the target was an ISIS-K member.

The Biden administration has held off announcing the news until the families of the 13 US troops killed could be informed. A high-ranking authority has stated that although there is no collaboration with the Taliban, they believe that the result is noteworthy.

The US withdrawal from Afghanistan saw the Taliban quickly take over the country, forcing the last US troops to mount a desperate evacuation from Kabul's airport. In a few days, over 120,000 individuals were successfully evacuated from the country through the operation.

Despite the criticism of his decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, President Biden has continued to defend his decision, arguing that "nothing would have changed the trajectory" of the exit. According to leaked Pentagon documents reported by the Washington Post, the US has concerns that Afghanistan is turning into a base of operations for the Islamic State group following the withdrawal.

The Taliban has been engaged in a turf war with IS in Afghanistan, with the Taliban fighting against IS as well as the Afghan government and US forces. Since returning to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban has sought to portray itself as a more moderate and pragmatic group, but concerns remain about its human rights record and ability to govern effectively.

The killing of the alleged mastermind behind the Kabul airport attack could be seen as a significant victory for the Taliban in their efforts to combat the threat of ISIS in the region. However, it also raises questions about the Taliban's relationship with the jihadist group and their ability to maintain security in the country.

The situation in Afghanistan remains highly complex, and ongoing concerns about human rights, security, and the ability of the Taliban to govern effectively continue to be raised. The killing of the alleged mastermind behind the Kabul airport attack is just one development in a long and complicated story, and its implications are yet to be fully understood.
