bring goats home for Bakrid

Tension escalated in Mumbai housing society, June 28, after a family brought goats ahead of Eid.

The sight triggered a massive uproar, with other society members resorting to chanting the Hanuman Chalisa in protest.

Fortunately, the police swiftly intervened and managed to defuse the situation, ultimately resolving the dispute.

Caught on CCTV, Mohsin Sheikh, accompanied by his wife and son, can be seen exiting the elevator with the two goats before ushering them into his home. Sheikh explained that the residential society, which houses approximately 200-250 Muslim families, typically provides a designated area for goat-keeping during Bakrid.

However, this year, the society's builder reneged on that arrangement, instructing the families to seek permission from the society instead.

Allegedly, their request was denied, prompting Sheikh to bring the goats home. He maintained that sacrificing the animals within the society premises was never his intention.

Mohsin Khan and his wife, Yasmin Khan, expressed their frustration, recounting the ordeal they faced. They alleged that the protesting crowd subjected them to assault, molestation, and mental harassment, suggesting that if their actions were indeed unlawful, the appropriate response should have been to file a police complaint.

One society resident voiced their objection, stating that while a society rule prohibits livestock from entering, some individuals chose to flout it and bring the goats inside. They firmly stood against this violation.

The police intervened, assuring society members that animal sacrifices would not be permitted within the premises according to the rules. Additionally, they warned Sheikh of potential consequences should he defy the regulations.

Eventually, Sheikh relocated the goats outside the residential society, putting an end to the contentious situation.
