Tensions flared between ex-Union minister VK Singh and former IPS officer M. Nageswara Rao over an alleged sexual assault at an Odisha police station involving an Army officer's fiancée. Singh criticized the police, while Rao defended them, calling for mutual respect between police and military forces amid ongoing investigations.
A heated exchange has erupted between former Union minister VK Singh and ex-IPS officer M. Nageswara Rao regarding an alleged sexual assault incident involving the fiancée of an Indian Army officer at an Odisha police station. Singh condemned the incident as “shameful and horrendous,” demanding immediate action against the police personnel involved.
In response, Rao criticized Singh for his quick judgment, asserting that the Odisha police were not to blame. He described the incident as a result of a drunken altercation initiated by the Army officer and his fiancée, who were reportedly involved in a brawl prior to their arrival at the police station. Rao emphasized the need for accountability while defending the police's actions, arguing that their job is often misunderstood.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 15, when the fiancée alleged that a male officer assaulted her at the Bharatpur police station, an accusation that has led to widespread public concern. She claimed she suffered multiple injuries during the confrontation. After initially being arrested for assaulting police officers, she was released on bail by the Orissa High Court.
Rao insisted that while individual misconduct should not reflect on the military institution, it was important for both the police and military to maintain mutual respect. He called for a balanced approach, highlighting that both forces play crucial roles in national security.
