On Thursday, veteran leader Siddaramaiah was elected as the next Chief Minister of

Karnataka. DK Shivakumar was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister by the Congress. While reacting to this news, the state unit chief, who was an equally strong contender for becoming the next chief minister, said, “When people have given such a big mandate, we should definitely be happy.” “Why should I be upset? There is a long way to go. When people have given such a big mandate, we should definitely be happy and fulfill the promises. That is our main motto, agenda”, he added.

The Deputy Chief Minister further expressed that after days of talking as well as contending for important positions, he is not unhappy that he did not get the post. Rather he is happy about the success of his party in the recent Karnataka elections. He also reiterated that the party would live up to all the promises they have made. The veteran leader dismissed any concerns of divisions or problems inside the party stating that the party is “united” in securing the future as well as the future of the people. He said, "The Congress party has a commitment before the people of Karnataka.

Parliament elections are ahead. So, I have to bow to the AICC president and the Gandhi family.”

On Thursday, veteran leader Siddaramaiah was elected as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. DK Shivakumar was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister by the Congress.

“In the larger interest of the party (I have agreed to the formula) and why not, because sometimes the ice should break. Ultimately, there is a responsibility towards what we have a commitment to the people of Karnataka and we have to deliver,” the leader added. Looking at the current status of Karnataka, there is hope that the Congress will be able to regain its position not just in the state but in the upcoming elections as well.
