The Election Commission's advice to Rahul Gandhi to think carefully before making statements was given in response to his remarks made during political rallies in Rajasthan in November 2023, where he used derogatory language like "panauti" (bad omen) and "jeb-katara" (pickpocket) to refer to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Election Commission has issued advisory to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Election Commission has asked Rahul Gandhi to be more cautious while giving public statements.
Rahul had used words like 'panauti' and 'jebkatre' for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The incident is from November 2023. Rahul said in election rallies in Badami and Vallabhnagar in Udaipur, Rajasthan - 'PM means- panauti Modi.' The good boys were winning the World Cup quite well, it's a different thing that they lost.
After this statement, the Election Commission had sought a response from him considering it a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court had also asked the Election Commission in December 2023 about action on the notice issued to Rahul. Advice has been given to Rahul after the same direction.
The Delhi High Court had also found the statement to be objectionable.
On December 21, the Delhi High Court also asked the Commission to decide on the notice issued to Rahul. The court had said that the statement made by the Congress leader during the election campaign in November 2023 was not good.
After considering all the facts related to the case involving comments like 'jebkatre' and 'panauti', including the court's orders and Rahul's response, the Election Commission advised Rahul Gandhi to be more cautious and vigilant in the future.
