Tragedy Strikes Nepal: Dozen Lives Lost, Two Indians Among Victims in Rapti River Bus Mishap

A devastating accident in Nepal's Lumbini province resulted in 12 casualties, including two Indian nationals, as a passenger bus plunged into the Rapti River. The victims include Mune (31) and Yogendra Ram Jogendra (67), among others. The incident occurred on the East-West Highway in Bhgalubang. Investigations are underway.
In
a tragic turn of events, a passenger bus en route from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu
veered off the Rapti
bridge in Bhgalubang, Nepal, plunging into the Rapti River. The accident claimed
the lives of at least 12 individuals, including two Indians, Mune and Yogendra
Ram Jogendra.
The
bodies of seven victims were recovered from the accident site, while five
others succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Among the identified victims
were Kusum Basnet, Saurabh Bista, Tara Kanta Pandey, Mun Bahadur Rawat,
Rambaran Harichand, and Deepak Kami.
Twenty-three individuals sustained injuries, with eight of them rushed to the Nepalgunj Medical Teaching Hospital in Kolhapur for treatment. Two Indian nationals are currently receiving medical attention at the Kolhapur-based hospital, as reported by Deputy Inspector of Police Sundar Tiwari.

The
injured have been distributed across medical facilities, with seven in Butwal
and two in Bhalubang Hospital. The accident's cause remains unclear, and
authorities are actively investigating. The bus driver, Lal Bahadur Nepali
(28), has been taken into custody to aid in the ongoing investigation.
This tragic incident echoes a similar event last October, where 12 Indian nationals and a Nepalese driver sustained injuries after their vehicle overturned near Kathmandu. The vehicle, carrying pilgrims, overturned in the Indrsarowar Rural Municipality, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures on Nepal's roadways.
