A tragic incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 1st August, 2023 in Thane, Maharashtra. The wee hours witnessed the collapse of a girder launching machine in Shahpur in Thane district.

 

At the location of the incident, a bridge construction was in progress when the accident occurred. Along with the confirmed fatalities, there are concerns that several others might be trapped beneath the debris.

 

At Least 14 people lost their lives and 3 were injured in the miserable misfortune. According to the provided details, the machine was employed during the construction of Phase III of the Samruddhi Express Highway.

Shahpur Police said, "14 people died and three injured after a girder launching machine collapsed near Shahpur in Thane. The machine was being used in the construction of Phase III of the Samruddhi Express Highway."

 

The major accident occurred when both the crane and slab connecting the girder machine fell from a height of 100 feet. The deceased were transported to a nearby hospital, along with the injured individuals.
