A tragic incident unfolded in Texas as a woman, accompanied by a young boy, opened fire at a Houston megachurch led by Pastor Joel Osteen. Two individuals were injured, including a child, amid heightened anticipation for Super Bowl LVIII across the US. The assailant's identity remains undisclosed.
In
Texas, a woman carried out a fatal shooting at a prominent church in Houston,
leading to the death of one individual and injuring two others. The incident
occurred at a megachurch affiliated with renowned evangelical pastor Joel
Osteen, adding shock to the community amidst the excitement surrounding Super
Bowl LVIII.
According
to reports from the city's police chief, the assailant, described as a woman in
her early thirties, entered the church wearing a long trench coat, armed with a
long rifle, and accompanied by a young boy, believed to be around five years
old. She initiated gunfire upon entering the premises, leading to the injury of
two individuals.
Among the victims, a child of approximately five years old remains in critical condition, while a 57-year-old man, shot in the hip, is reported to be stable, as confirmed by Houston's police chief, Troy Finner.

Responding
to the active shooter situation, off-duty law enforcement officers present at
the church during the incident engaged the assailant, resulting in her demise.
The identity of the woman responsible for the attack has yet to be disclosed by
authorities.
The
assailant's actions escalated further as she claimed to possess a bomb and
sprayed an unidentified substance upon the arrival of first responders. While
investigations continue, no explosives have been found in the suspect's vehicle
or backpack, as reported by the police.
The
tragic incident prompted responses from local officials, including Houston
Mayor John Whitmire and Governor Greg Abbott, who expressed solidarity with the
affected community and pledged support in the pursuit of justice. Despite the
harrowing event, authorities reassured the public that the shooting was an
isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to safety in the area.
