In a bid to diffuse escalating diplomatic tensions, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau engaged in discussions with leaders from around the world, including the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, addressing the ongoing India-Canada row. Trudeau's diplomatic efforts come in the wake of his allegations against India, claiming the country's involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on July 19.

During a conversation with UAE President Sheikh MohamedBin Zayed, Trudeau emphasized the significance of upholding the rule of law and respecting diplomatic conventions. He urged New Delhi to comprehend the importance of adhering to these international norms. Trudeau reiterated a similar message during his talks with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, stating that all nations should "respect the rule of law and the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations."

The tension between Canada and India reached new heights when Trudeau accused Indian agents of being connected to the Khalistani terrorist's assassination. However, India's Ministry of External Affairs promptly dismissed these allegations as "baseless" and "politically motivated." The dispute escalated to the point where reports emerged suggesting that India might expel at least 41 Canadian diplomats to maintain diplomatic balance in its New Delhi-based embassy.

In another diplomatic move, Trudeau conversed with UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak, highlighting the importance of de-escalating the situation between India and Canada. Sunak expressed his hope for a peaceful resolution to the tensions arising from Hardeep Singh Nijjar's death.

Trudeau remains committed to not escalating the matter further, stating, "We're not looking to escalate...we're going to be doing the work that matters in continuing to have constructive relations with India through this extremely difficult time." He acknowledged the challenges that Ottawa faces in its relations with New Delhi and emphasized the importance of having diplomats on the ground to support Canadians and Canadian families.

In the midst of these diplomatic challenges, Canada's Prime Minister is focused on engaging responsibly and constructively with India, striving to restore stability in their bilateral relations. As the diplomatic discussions unfold, the international community closely watches for signs of resolution and cooperation between the two nations.
