Trump Orders Nuclear Submarine Deployment Following Medvedev’s Threats

President Trump has deployed two nuclear submarines following threats from Russia's Dmitry Medvedev, escalating tensions over the Ukraine conflict. Trump called the move precautionary, citing national safety. Medvedev warned of potential nuclear consequences, sparking concern. The Kremlin remains silent, but Russia’s stock market dipped sharply after the announcement.

US President Donald Trump has ordered the repositioning of two nuclear submarines in response to threatening remarks by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The move, which Trump described as precautionary, reflects growing tensions between the two nuclear powers over the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said the submarines were deployed to "appropriate regions" following what he called “highly provocative” comments from Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council. Though Trump didn’t specify the type or exact location of the submarines, the decision underscores a shift in US posture amid escalating rhetoric.

Medvedev, a close ally of Vladimir Putin, had earlier accused Trump of playing a “dangerous ultimatum game,” after the US president demanded a ceasefire in Ukraine by 8 August or face severe economic sanctions. The former Russian leader responded with stark warnings, invoking “dead hand” — a term widely interpreted as a reference to Russia’s nuclear retaliation system.

Trump, addressing reporters later, clarified the deployment was made in the interest of national safety. “A threat was made… and we’re going to protect our people,” he said. He stopped short of revealing whether the submarines were nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed.

The Kremlin has not yet issued an official response. However, Trump’s comments led to a sharp drop in Moscow’s stock market, highlighting the impact of the renewed tensions on investor confidence.

The exchange adds to a string of hostile interactions between Trump and Medvedev, who have traded personal attacks online. As US-Russia relations remain strained, the potential for miscalculation continues to raise concerns among international observers, especially with both nations maintaining the world’s largest nuclear arsenals.
