Trump's lawyer says his 2024 White House bid will continue despite his criminal conviction for falsifying records related to a hush money payment, claiming "political persecution."
While facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records regarding a payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, former president of the United States of America, Donald Trump plans to run for the presidency again in the 2024 Republican primaries, according to one of Trump’s lawyers.
In an interview, Trump's lawyer Alina Habba stated that not even a prison sentence would deter Trump from his goal of becoming president again. “He is running for president, nothing will change there,” Habba said.
Trump was convicted on Thursday after a 7-week trial in Manhattan, making him a former president to be convicted of a crime. He is expected to be sentenced on July 11 and plans to challenge the verdicts.
Habba condemned the prosecution as political, selective, and part of the corruption that this country has never experienced in the judicial systems.
Regarding the verdict, Trump focused on his political opponents, the jury, and the judge whom he called a ‘tyrant’ who ‘crucified’ the witnesses. President Biden dismissed such suggestions about the trial as being tendentious and reckless.

Legal writers opine that it will be highly unlikely for Trump to be given the maximum sentence of over 100 years for the felonies. But the convictions have deepened the division along party lines in the U. S. as it approaches the election next year.
