Donald Trump criticised India’s trade with Russia, calling both nations' economies “dead.” He also warned former Russian President Medvedev and announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports. Trump accused both countries of unfriendly trade practices while expressing frustration over Russia’s inaction in ending the war in Ukraine.

Former US President Donald Trump launched a fresh attack on India and Russia, criticising their growing trade relationship and describing both as having “dead economies.” In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated, “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.” He also claimed that the United States has “done very little business with India” due to what he described as excessively high tariffs, which he labelled “among the highest in the world.”
Trump’s criticism wasn’t limited to India. He also took a swipe at Russia, warning former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to “watch his words” and calling him a “failed former President” who was “entering very dangerous territory.” This comment came in response to Medvedev’s earlier remarks accusing Trump of escalating tensions with Russia and potentially pushing towards war.
Tensions escalated further after Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports and sanctions over New Delhi’s defence and trade ties with Moscow. The announcement followed his public disappointment in Russian President Vladimir Putin for failing to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump had previously given a 50-day deadline to agree on a peace deal but said this week that the deadline would now be shortened to just 10 to 12 days.

The controversial remarks have drawn attention across diplomatic circles, with Trump making clear that he no longer sees cooperation with either India or Russia as beneficial to the United States. His statements mark a significant escalation in his foreign policy rhetoric as he continues his re-election campaign.
