US Capitol Hill Hosts Inaugural Hindu-American Summit in Washington, DC

On Wednesday, the first-ever Hindu-American Summit took place at Capitol Hill in the United States, garnering support from Congressional leaders and political advocacy groups. Organized by Americans4Hindus and backed by 20 other organizations, the summit brought together Hindu community leaders from across the country.
The event commenced with Vedic prayers echoing within the dome of the US Capitol.
Dr. Romesh Japra, the chairperson of Americans4Hindus and the chief organizer of the summit, emphasized the alignment of Hindu values with the principles enshrined in the US Constitution and the Bhagavad Gita.
He expressed the commitment to give Hindu Americans a voice, as they feel they have been subjected to discrimination and are lagging politically.
Republican Congressman Rich McCormick, representing Georgia's 6th District, announced a bipartisan Congressional delegation to India in August. McCormick praised the Hindu-American community for their contributions to America and acknowledged their potential to influence the election of the next US president.
He urged them to recognize their political power and emphasized the importance of political engagement to shape the future of America.
Congresswoman Michelle Steel, who represents California's 45th district, showed her support for the Hindu community by highlighting similarities between the Korean and Indian American experiences. She serves as a member of the House Ways and Means and China subcommittee.
Shri Thanedar, the newest Indian American member of the US Congress, delivered an opening speech in Marathi and expressed his dedication to standing with and advocating for Indian American communities.
He announced plans to establish a 'Hindu Caucus' within the US Congress, aiming to unite like-minded lawmakers to combat hate and bigotry against Hindus in the country.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee affirmed her unwavering support for the Hindu-American communities and recalled her visit with John Lewis to the Gandhi Ashram in Gujarat's Sabarmati.
She expressed anticipation for her upcoming Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his three-day state visit to Washington DC, scheduled to begin on June 21.
The visit includes a welcome ceremony, a state Dinner, and an address to the Joint Session of the US Congress on June 22.
