Relief and rescue operations are intensifying at the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, where 40 workers remain trapped after a tunnel collapse. The situation has led to a protest by workers and their families at the accident site, adding complexity to the ongoing rescue efforts.

Technical challenges, including a landslide and issues with a drilling machine, have impeded the rescue operation. Despite these obstacles, authorities ensure a constant supply of oxygen, electricity, medicines, food, and water to the trapped workers. Two rescue workers injured during a landslide are receiving treatment at a makeshift hospital.

Key officials, including Uttarkashi District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela, SDRF Commandant Manikant Mishra, and Superintendent of Police Arpan Yaduvanshi, are actively involved in the rescue operation. The police are facilitating communication between trapped workers and their families, providing emotional support in these challenging times.

The incident occurred on November 12 when a portion of the under-construction tunnel collapsed due to a landslide. The diverse group of trapped workers includes individuals from Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Odisha.

Rescue efforts involve 900 mm diameter steel pipes, drill, and boring machines, with SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra leading the operation. Despite the challenges, workers inside the tunnel remain hopeful for a swift rescue.

As families anxiously await news about their loved ones, District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela and Dr. Prem Pokhriyal, the senior doctor of the District Hospital, have provided reassurance and information to both the workers and their families. The administration is committed to evacuating all individuals trapped in the tunnel safely, emphasizing the ongoing collaborative efforts to overcome the hurdles in this critical situation.
