In a recent turn of events, renowned Congress leader and boxer, Vijender Singh, expressed his sentiments regarding Sakshi Malik's retirement from wrestling. Addressing the media, Singh highlighted the palpable dismay within the sports industry owing to Malik's decision and pledged his commitment to engage with every player, stadium, and 'akhada' to emphasize the paramount importance of women's safety.

The catalyst behind Sakshi Malik's retirement stemmed from the election of Sanjay Singh as the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India, a close associate of former chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Malik attributed her departure to this shift in leadership, citing the ascendancy of Brij Bhushan's 'right hand' as the pivotal factor leading to her exit from the sport.

Singh's fervor to advocate for athletes' safety and welfare was evident in his address to the media. "The sports industry is upset with it (wrestler Sakshi Malik's retirement). We will go to every player, every stadium, and every 'akhada' and speak to them about women's safety, the employment of the athletes and we will stand with them," he affirmed.

He empathized with Sakshi Malik's plight, acknowledging the distress athletes face when justice eludes them, especially referencing her unresolved sexual harassment case. Singh raised concerns over the treatment meted out to athletes, expressing apprehension about the plight of ordinary citizens if athletes, who have glorified the nation with their achievements, face such challenges.

In essence, Vijender Singh's proactive stance in advocating for athletes' safety in the wake of Sakshi Malik's retirement underscores the urgent need for a robust support system within the sports industry, ensuring fair treatment and security for all athletes.
