Vistara: 10-Year-Old Passenger

A 10-year-old passenger onboard a Vistara flight from Delhi to Frankfurt experienced second-degree burns as a result of a hot beverage spill, prompting Vistara to offer medical care, full expense reimbursement, and ongoing support, while the victim's family expressed dissatisfaction with the airline's handling of the incident and demanded an apology.

On August 11, a 10-year-old traveler suffered burn wounds. The injuries were a result of a hot beverage accidentally spilling onto her thighs. The young passenger was accompanied by her parents during the journey. The mishap occurred due to an alleged oversight by a flight attendant who reportedly didn't properly secure the lid of the hot beverage.

The incident happened when hot chocolate spilled on her during Vistara flight UK25 from Delhi to Frankfurt on August 11. Her parents claimed it was due to the crew's mishandling. The child received first aid from an onboard paramedic and was later treated at Sanaa Clinicum Offenbach. Vistara confirmed the incident but attributed it to the child being "playful" during service. The airline's crew provided immediate first aid as per SOPs, and a paramedic assisted until landing in Frankfurt, Vistara stated.

On social media, Rachna Gupta, the child's mother, criticized the inadequate response of the cabin crew on Flight UK25. She highlighted the absence of an apology and the lack of assistance for medical treatment upon their arrival in Germany.

“An unfortunate accident poorly handled. Vistara hostess didn’t apologize, captain or crew members didn’t apologize. After basic first aid on [the flight] my daughter and I were left in an ambulance to fend for ourselves in an unfamiliar environment.” she stated.

A Vistara spokesperson mentioned that they had assured the customer about complete coverage of medical expenses and were also making enhancements to their processes for the future, emphasizing the importance of safety.

Vistara confirmed that their teams had stayed in touch with the customer since then. They had arranged for the family's early return to India, organized ground transportation in Frankfurt, met them at the airport, and provided comprehensive on-ground support.
