In a desperate bid for survival, Volta Trucks, the once-promising electric truck manufacturer, is actively seeking a buyer as it grapples with the throes of bankruptcy. The company, headquartered in Sweden with operations in the United Kingdom, has found itself teetering on the edge of financial ruin. A reliable source with insider knowledge revealed the urgent search for a saviour to Reuters.

The bankruptcy predicament emerged in the wake of their key supplier, Proterra, declaring bankruptcy in August and a cloud of uncertainty surrounding their battery supplier, making it exceedingly challenging to secure the necessary capital. Volta Trucks had set its sights on a factory in Austria for truck production and was progressing steadfastly towards the grand stage of mass production.

The bankruptcy struck like a bolt from the blue, just when the company was a mere 30 days away from realizing its production dreams. Volta Trucks had, over time, managed to accumulate approximately 460 million euros ($488 million) in investments from various sources. For now, the identity of the source remains concealed.

Despite the distressing situation, customers who had placed orders for over 5,000 Volta Trucks are unwavering in their desire to take possession of their vehicles. In response, the management has been inundated with preliminary inquiries from both strategic and financial investors, ranging from 10 to 20 interested parties, all contemplating the prospect of buying the beleaguered company.

Time is of the essence, as the management faces a race against the clock during the company's administration period to secure a lifeline and avoid the sell-off of assets by administrators to minimize creditors' losses. The management has swung into action, actively approaching potential investors, with plans to intensify discussions on the morrow, aiming to lure a saviour by the end of the upcoming week.

Efforts to obtain comments from Alvarez & Marsal Europe (A&M), the appointed bankruptcy administrators for Volta Trucks' UK operations, were unsuccessful. Nevertheless, they stated their unwavering commitment to exploring all available options to secure the company's future.

Volta Trucks' dire situation reflects a broader trend in the electric vehicle industry. Once a magnet for billions in investments, several electric vehicle startups, including Proterra and Lordstown Motors, have been grappling with bankruptcy proceedings, attributed in part to mounting inflation stifling their access to essential funding.

As Volta Trucks navigates these treacherous waters, its survival now hinges on securing a white knight to steer it away from the precipice of financial collapse. The unfolding days will reveal whether Volta Trucks' management can engineer a successful rescue and breathe new life into the promising electric truck venture.
