Warner Bros. Issues Apology Following Controversial Barbenheimer Tweets that Sparked Criticism in Japan !

Apology

Variety reports that Warner Bros. Film Group in the United States has issued a public apology for their social media activity related to the 'Barbenheimer' meme, which caused outrage in Japan.

In an email to Variety, the studio expressed sincere remorse, stating, "Warner Brothers sincerely apologizes for its recent insensitive social media engagement." The public criticism in Japan, an online petition against the studio, and an unexpected action by Warner's Japanese distribution arm were factors that led to the apology.

On Monday, Warner Bros. Japan released an official statement on its Japanese-language "Barbie" Twitter account, expressing criticism towards the studio's U.S. division for its involvement in the 'Barbenheimer' social media frenzy.

Both films, "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie," were released on July 21 in North America and numerous overseas regions, achieving instant success at the box office. Their debuts contributed to the box office achieving its fourth-highest-grossing weekend ever. However, it's worth noting that "Oppenheimer" has yet to be released in Japan, with no confirmed release date. As the film explores the debate on whether bombings ultimately led to saved lives and world peace, the ongoing clash highlights the ongoing sensitivity of the nuclear weapons issue in Japan, as reported by Variety.

Historical estimates suggest that the two atomic bombs dropped by the United States on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 resulted in the tragic loss of as many as 250,000 lives.

Warner Bros. Japan expressed deep regret over the official account of the American headquarters for the movie 'Barbie' responding to 'Barbenheimer' fan posts on social media. In a statement posted on the 'Barbie' Japan Twitter profile, they conveyed their serious concern about the situation and requested appropriate action from the U.S. headquarters. The statement concludes with an apology to those who were offended by the series of inconsiderate reactions. Warner Bros. Japan.
