In response to the directive from the Calcutta High Court, the Governor of West Bengal, C V Ananda Bose, has issued a stern call for the immediate arrest of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shajahan Sheikh. The urgency stems from allegations implicating Sheikh in cases of sexual misconduct and land acquisition in Sandeshkhali. Governor Bose has set a strict deadline of 72 hours for the state authorities to execute Sheikh's arrest. Should the authorities fail to comply, they are required to furnish a detailed report explaining the delay.

Additionally, Governor Bose has directed the state government to launch a thorough investigation into a disturbing incident reported in Sandeshkhali. The incident involves the alleged hurling of a child by miscreants. He has demanded a comprehensive report on this matter to be submitted to his office promptly. This call to action underscores the gravity of the situation and the imperative for swift justice.

Governor Bose's communication to the state government emphasizes the urgency of Sheikh's immediate arrest, aligning closely with the court's ruling. The failure to adhere to this directive within the stipulated timeframe will necessitate a thorough explanation from the concerned authorities.

The involvement of the Calcutta High Court has further heightened the significance of the matter. The court has mandated the inclusion of key agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the proceedings. Additionally, the Superintendent of Police and the state's Home Secretary representing the West Bengal government have been summoned as parties to the suo motu proceedings initiated by the court. This move demonstrates the seriousness with which the allegations against Sheikh are being addressed.

The court's directive explicitly orders the concerned police authorities to effect Sheikh's arrest, emphasizing the urgency and seriousness of the situation. Sandeshkhali, located in the North 24 Parganas district, has been gripped by unrest for weeks due to allegations of land usurpation and sexual misconduct involving Sheikh and his associates.

Despite recent arrests of individuals purportedly linked to Sheikh, such as Shibaprasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar, Sheikh himself has managed to evade authorities since January 5. This evasion occurred during a raid conducted by officials from the Enforcement Directorate at his premises in Sandeshkhali.

Governor Bose's proactive measures aim to address the escalating tensions in Sandeshkhali. He has submitted a comprehensive report to the Union Home Ministry in recent days, underscoring the urgency and seriousness with which the situation is being handled.
