Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed not to cede territory to Russia ahead of next week’s Trump-Putin summit in Alaska. Rejecting any “partition” plan, Zelensky insisted on an immediate, lasting peace that ends occupation. He accused Putin of seeking to legalise territorial gains and has coordinated with allies for a united position.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly rejected any proposal that would involve ceding territory to Russia, warning against what he called “a second attempt to partition” Ukraine. His comments come just days before U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Alaska next Friday.
Zelensky accused Putin of trying to “legalise” Russian-occupied territories in exchange for ending hostilities, calling it a tactic to escape sanctions while securing “territorial spoils.” He cautioned that allowing such concessions would only embolden Moscow to attempt further land grabs in the future.
“We must end the war with a dignified peace, based on a clear and reliable security architecture,” Zelensky said in a video address. He stressed that Ukraine’s path to peace must be determined in coordination with Kyiv, and that any settlement must bring immediate and lasting peace rather than a temporary ceasefire.
The Ukrainian leader reiterated his refusal to “gift” Ukrainian land to Russia, underscoring that a genuine resolution would require the end of occupation and the full restoration of territorial integrity. He warned that a “pause in the killings” was not enough, urging for an immediate end to the war.
The Alaska summit will mark the first in-person meeting between U.S. and Russian leaders since June 2021. Trump has hinted the talks could involve “some swapping of territories to the betterment of both” Ukraine and Russia, without elaborating.
