At least 10 people have died and five others were injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Zakir Colony, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday. Rescue operations by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have now concluded.

The building collapsed around 5:15 pm, leading to an immediate response from emergency services. Despite ongoing rain, rescue efforts continued through the night. Among the victims were five minors, including Simra (1.5 years), Aliya (6), Reeza (7), Saqib (11), and Saniya (15). The other victims were identified as Sajid (40), Naffo (63), Farhana (20), and Alisa (18).

Five others were pulled out alive from the debris and are currently receiving treatment at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College. Sofiyan (6) is in stable condition, while Naeem (22), Nadeem (26), Saqib (20), and Saina (38) are recovering from their injuries.

Local authorities, including senior police and district officials, rushed to the site to oversee rescue operations. “As told by the family and relatives, 15 people were trapped in the debris of the house. All 15 have been rescued, 10 out of which have died, and 5 are undergoing treatment,” said district magistrate Deepak Meena.
