In a significant announcement, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, at the age of 90, disclosed that he won't be participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections slated for April-May. Citing age-related concerns, the Janata Dal (Secular) stalwart revealed his decision during a press conference. Emphasizing his commitment to the party, he affirmed, "I am not contesting the elections. I am now 90. Whichever seats we get, wherever it is necessary, I will go there."

Addressing speculations regarding his son and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy's potential candidacy, Deve Gowda remained non-committal, stating, "It's not decided on former CM Kumaraswamy contesting Lok Sabha polls." When questioned about the possibility of Kumaraswamy securing a cabinet berth in the Modi government post the 2024 elections, Deve Gowda admitted being unaware of the Prime Minister's intentions. However, he confirmed that his grandson, Prajwal Revanna, the current MP from the Hassan seat, would be the JD(S) candidate in the forthcoming Parliamentary polls, emphasizing that Prajwal had the blessings of both the people and himself.
