Academic Council Approves Delhi University's Dual Degree Programs

Delhi University's Academic Council greenlit dual degree programs, allowing students to pursue two academic programs simultaneously. VC Yogesh Singh chaired the 1016th meeting, discussing twinning, joint degrees, credit transfers, and approved syllabi changes.

In its 1016th Academic Council meeting, Delhi University sanctioned a proposal for dual degree programs, enabling students to pursue two academic programs simultaneously. Chaired by Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, the meeting concentrated on various aspects, including twinning, joint degrees with foreign institutions, and the implementation of dual degree schemes. Discussions involved allowing students to enroll in two academic programs concurrently and credit transfer, aligning with the NEP 2020.

Vice-Chancellor Singh detailed the current academic session's admissions, highlighting 98 orphan students granted admission with full fee waivers under a special reservation scheme. Financial support worth Rs 1,00,61,057 was disbursed among 1009 students during the financial year 2022-2023.

Approved syllabi changes according to the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 (UGCF-2022) included an aptitude enhancement course in Hindi EL and three DSE papers under the Department of Economics.

The meeting also addressed students opting for Generic Elective courses in certain languages at specific colleges, emphasizing the need to study subjects not offered by their respective institutions.

Furthermore, DU introduced a provision for orphan children's seat reservations across all classes, offering free higher education. This initiative includes waiving tuition and hostel fees for children admitted under this scheme, aligning with the university's centenary year celebration.

Overall, Delhi University's Academic Council meeting embraced innovation and inclusivity by approving dual degree programs and implementing measures to support orphan students, enhancing accessibility to quality education.
