Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda are set to embark
on a two-day visit to Kolkata, emphasizing Bengal's significance in the BJP's
strategy for the 2024 general elections. Their arrival in Kolkata is scheduled
for Monday night, followed by a packed itinerary of key meetings and
assessments.
The
party insider confirmed the leaders' late-night engagements with state
officials upon their arrival, followed by visits to Gurudwara Bara Sikh Sangat
and Kalighat temple on Tuesday morning. The day will proceed with crucial
closed-door meetings involving state leaders and organizational wings,
essential groundwork for the upcoming polls, according to a state BJP leader.
Their
day is tightly packed, devoid of any public appearances, as they delve into
extensive evaluations of the party's organizational might in preparation for
the looming Lok Sabha polls. The evening includes a closed-door program at the
National Library before their departure for the national capital, underlining
the gravity of their Bengal agenda.

Amit
Shah's ambitious target of securing over 35 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal amplifies
the stakes for this meticulous organizational groundwork. The BJP's past
success in winning 18 out of the 42 seats in the state in the 2019 elections
sets a high bar for their future aspirations.
This
strategic visit assumes heightened significance amidst internal challenges
post-2021 elections, with discord and defections denting the party's strength.
The defection of key figures like Babul Supriyo, Arjun Singh, and Mukul Roy to
TMC has prompted a reevaluation of the party's approach in Bengal.
As
the BJP braces for the 2024 showdown, this visit signifies a crucial juncture
in bolstering the party's organizational machinery, aiming to counter recent
setbacks and strengthen its position in the state's political landscape.
