In a recent development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a JD(U) rally celebrating the birth centenary of former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur, took a subtle dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kumar, expressing gratitude for conferring the Bharat Ratna on Thakur, remarked that PM Modi might claim "full credit" for the prestigious award.

While addressing the crowd, Kumar highlighted his persistent calls for bestowing the highest civilian honor upon Thakur. He shared an incident where Thakur's son informed him about the Prime Minister's call after the announcement, noting that he himself had not received any such acknowledgment. Despite this, Kumar thanked PM Modi and the government for fulfilling a demand he had been advocating since assuming power in Bihar.

The Chief Minister emphasized his commitment to the values upheld by Karpoori Thakur, known for integrity in public life. He disapproved of dynastic politics, asserting that he never promoted his family members, drawing inspiration from Thakur's principles.

Kumar also took a swipe at the Centre for not acknowledging his persistent efforts leading to the Bharat Ratna announcement. He thanked the government for the honor but pointed out that it was just one of the many demands he had been championing. He expressed his disappointment with the ruling dispensation, highlighting his extensive efforts in organizing events and writing letters to successive governments advocating for the recognition of Thakur's contributions.

Before the rally, Kumar visited Thakur's ancestral village, meeting family members, including Thakur's son Ramnath Thakur, who is a JD(U) national general secretary. Kumar's visit emphasized the deep-rooted connection with his political mentor's legacy.
