a recent development, Bihar
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a JD(U) rally celebrating the birth
centenary of former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur, took a subtle dig at Prime
Minister Narendra Modi. Kumar, expressing gratitude for conferring the Bharat
Ratna on Thakur, remarked that PM Modi might claim "full credit" for
the prestigious award.
While addressing the crowd, Kumar highlighted his persistent calls for bestowing the highest civilian honor upon Thakur. He shared an incident where Thakur's son informed him about the Prime Minister's call after the announcement, noting that he himself had not received any such acknowledgment. Despite this, Kumar thanked PM Modi and the government for fulfilling a demand he had been advocating since assuming power in Bihar.

The
Chief Minister emphasized his commitment to the values upheld by Karpoori
Thakur, known for integrity in public life. He disapproved of dynastic
politics, asserting that he never promoted his family members, drawing
inspiration from Thakur's principles.
Kumar
also took a swipe at the Centre for not acknowledging his persistent efforts
leading to the Bharat Ratna announcement. He thanked the government for the
honor but pointed out that it was just one of the many demands he had been championing.
He expressed his disappointment with the ruling dispensation, highlighting his
extensive efforts in organizing events and writing letters to successive
governments advocating for the recognition of Thakur's contributions.
Before the rally, Kumar visited Thakur's ancestral village, meeting family members, including Thakur's son Ramnath Thakur, who is a JD(U) national general secretary. Kumar's visit emphasized the deep-rooted connection with his political mentor's legacy.
