An international coalition, led by the US, conducts precise strikes on areas under Houthi control in Yemen

A multinational coalition, led by the United States and the United Kingdom, conducted targeted strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The operation, supported by key allies, aims to curb Houthi aggression threatening international shipping. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized the commitment to defending freedom of navigation and holding the Houthis accountable.

In a united effort, the United States and the United Kingdom, backed by allies such as Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, executed additional strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, sending a clear message against illegal attacks on international shipping. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin stressed the consequences for the Houthis persisting in such actions.

Defence Secretary Austin conveyed, "This collective action sends a clear message to the Houthis that they will continue to bear further consequences if they do not end their illegal attacks on international shipping and naval vessels." The strikes aimed to disrupt the Iranian-backed Houthi militia's capabilities, particularly in the Red Sea, known for destabilizing attacks.

Targeting 13 locations associated with the Houthis, the coalition aimed precision at deeply buried weapons storage, missile systems, launchers, air defense systems, and radars. The objective is to hinder Houthi capabilities for reckless attacks on US and international vessels transiting the Red Sea.

The joint statement from the US, the UK, and coalition partners highlighted proportional and necessary strikes against 36 Houthi targets across 13 locations. This response followed continued Houthi attacks on international shipping and naval vessels, marking a series of illegal, dangerous, and destabilizing actions since the coalition's previous strikes in January 2024.

The coalition, representing a growing international consensus, reiterated its commitment to upholding the rules-based order, protecting freedom of navigation, and holding the Houthis accountable. Despite aiming to de-escalate tensions and restore stability in the Red Sea, the statement affirmed a warning to Houthi leadership, underscoring the commitment to defending lives and the free flow of commerce in one of the world's most critical waterways.
