Asaduddin Owaisi Opposes 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' Citing Lack of Muslim and OBC Women Quota

In a significant development, Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), voiced his dissent regarding the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,' also known as the women reservation bill.

Owaisi expressed strong opposition to the bill, citing his concerns that it lacks provisions for quotas for women from the Muslim and OBC (Other Backward Classes) communities.

Owaisi criticized the bill, stating, "Who are you giving representation to? Those who don't have representation should be given representation. The major flaw in this bill is that there is no quota for women from Muslim and OBC communities, so we are against it." He emphasized the need for equitable representation of underrepresented groups.

Owaisi's concerns highlight a critical issue of inadequate representation. Out of the 8,992 MPs elected in 17 Lok Sabha elections, only 520 were Muslims, and very few of them were women, creating a significant deficit in representation.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed strong support for the women's reservation bill. He emphasized his government's commitment to passing the bill, which aims to reserve one-third of seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women. PM Modi argued that this move would strengthen democracy and promote women's participation in policymaking at all levels of government.
