West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rebuked the BJP for disrupting the Assembly during the Budget Session. She criticized their behaviour, stating the Assembly isn't a BJP office. Despite the chaos, the government introduced additional dearness allowance for state employees and emphasized social welfare policies.

West
Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata
Banerjee, found herself at odds with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as
chaos erupted in the state Assembly during the Budget Session. Banerjee,
visibly agitated, criticized the disruption, asserting that the Assembly was
not a "BJP party office." The confrontation unfolded as the Assembly
convened for the presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Banerjee's
rebuke came in response to the BJP's uproar, which occurred while West Bengal
Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya was slated to present the budget.
Banerjee emphasized that the Assembly was a space for constructive discourse,
not political theatrics. She insisted that if the Opposition had grievances,
they should voice them after the budget presentation, respecting the decorum of
the legislative process.
Expressing
her frustration, Banerjee accused the BJP of attempting to derail the
proceedings and disrupt the democratic process. She condemned what she termed
"dirty politics," highlighting the BJP's alleged disregard for the
welfare of the people of Bengal. Banerjee's impassioned remarks underscored her
commitment to upholding the integrity of the Assembly and ensuring that it
remains a forum for meaningful debate and governance.
Despite the disruptions, the Mamata Banerjee-led government proceeded with its agenda. Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya presented the budget, which included a series of policy initiatives aimed at fostering social welfare and promoting employment opportunities in the state. Notably, the government announced an additional 4% dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees, building upon the 4% increase declared earlier in January. This move was part of the government's efforts to address the financial concerns of its employees and mitigate the impact of economic challenges.

Furthermore,
the budget session saw the introduction of a 'Gender and Child Budget Statement,'
reflecting the government's commitment to gender equality and child welfare.
Banerjee's administration emphasized the importance of inclusive development,
prioritizing initiatives that cater to the needs of vulnerable populations.
In
the face of political tensions, Mamata Banerjee remained resolute in her
dedication to serving the people of West Bengal. Her firm stance against
political disruption reaffirmed her leadership's commitment to upholding
democratic principles and advancing the state's interests. As the budget
session progressed, Banerjee's administration continued to focus on
implementing policies aimed at fostering growth, equity, and social justice
across the state.
