In anticipation of December 3's vote count after the recent Mizoram Assembly elections, DGP Anil Shukla assured extensive preparation. Speaking to ANI, he confirmed the secure placement of voting machines and pledged police support for the vote tallying. "The Election Commission has scheduled the vote count for December 3... The machines are secure... We'll assist the civil administration... Central forces are already present," stated Shukla. Additionally, the Mizoram police, including IRBN and Mizoram armed forces, are stationed in the northeastern state for the event.

Shukla also addressed the issue of illegal drug trade within Mizoram, highlighting its substantial challenge. The Assembly elections held on November 7 concluded peacefully, with over 77% voter turnout among the 8.57 lakh electors. The major parties - Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), and Congress - contested in all 40 seats. The BJP competed in 23, while AAP had candidates in four segments; 27 independent candidates also participated.

In the previous 2018 elections, MNF secured 26 seats, adding two in subsequent by-polls, while ZPM won eight seats, surpassing the Congress, which secured five. BJP won one seat. Analysts predict a direct contest between MNF and ZPM this year. Security measures were stringent during voting, with 7,200 personnel ensuring fairness and peace. The deployment comprised 1,831 local police officers, 2,527 SAPF members, and 2,700 CAPF officers across the state. Notably, Mizoram shares borders with Myanmar, Bangladesh, Assam, Tripura, and Manipur.

The state remains vigilant ahead of the crucial counting day, aiming for a smooth and secure tallying process post the high-stakes elections.
