Atishi will be sworn in as Delhi's new Chief Minister today following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. Her brief tenure will focus on accelerating key policies ahead of the assembly elections in February 2025. Joining her cabinet are Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and first-time MLA Mukesh Ahlawat.
AAP leader Atishi is set to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi in a ceremony scheduled for today at Raj Niwas. The swearing-in, which will take place at 4:30 pm, comes after President Droupadi Murmu approved Atishi's appointment and accepted Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. The President also confirmed the appointment of five new ministers to her cabinet.
Atishi’s rise to the chief minister's post comes at a crucial time for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), following Kejriwal’s surprise resignation earlier this week. Kejriwal, who had been incarcerated for over five months in connection to the Delhi excise policy case, stepped down amid mounting allegations and attacks from the BJP. The former chief minister stated he would seek to return to office after clearing his name in the upcoming assembly elections, slated for February 2025.
Atishi has been a key figure in Delhi’s government, holding multiple portfolios in the Kejriwal administration, including finance, education, and public works. Her brief term in office will focus on fast-tracking pending initiatives, such as the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, the revised Electric Vehicle Policy, and doorstep service delivery.
Joining Atishi’s new cabinet will be Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra. Four of these members previously held ministerial positions in Kejriwal’s government.

Though the oath-taking ceremony is expected to be modest, it marks a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape. Atishi’s tenure will be closely watched as the assembly election looms just months away, offering little time for her administration to make substantial changes.
