Amid escalating political turmoil, Bangladesh is set to witness the swearing-in of an interim government led by Nobel laureate and economist Muhammad Yunus. This development follows the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after violent protests erupted across the country. The protests, primarily driven by students, were in opposition to the government's policies and culminated in demands for Yunus to lead a transitional administration.

The Bangladesh Army Chief made the announcement of the interim government, signaling a significant shift in the country's political landscape. The violence that precipitated this change has claimed 469 lives, including 29 members of the ruling Awami League, underscoring the severity of the unrest. Businesses across the nation have been vocal in their demand for the restoration of law and order, as the situation continues to impact daily life and economic activities.

Yunus, who returned to Dhaka from Paris following a medical procedure, addressed the nation, lauding the courage of the student protesters while advocating for nonviolent approaches moving forward. His leadership in the interim government is seen as a critical step towards stabilizing the country, with fresh general elections expected to be announced soon.

In the meantime, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, recently released from prison, has called for a democratic Bangladesh where all religions are respected, amidst reports of targeted attacks on Hindu minorities and Awami League supporters.

India, closely monitoring the developments, has taken precautionary measures by recalling non-essential diplomatic staff from Dhaka, while continuing its diplomatic mission in the country. Additionally, Indian airlines have facilitated the repatriation of over 400 individuals amid the unrest.
