Bangladeshi vlogger and former airline crew Shanta Pal was arrested in Kolkata for using fake Indian documents to pose as a citizen. She intended to travel abroad using forged IDs. Police seized multiple identity cards and are investigating the people who helped her obtain them.

Shanta Pal, a 28-year-old Bangladeshi model and food vlogger, has been arrested in Kolkata for impersonating an Indian national using fake identity documents. The arrest took place in the Bikramgarh area of South Kolkata, following a cheating and criminal conspiracy case registered against her.
Originally from Bangladesh, Shanta had worked as a model and flight crew for Regent Airways. She legally entered India a few months ago with her Bangladeshi passport and initially settled in Park Street, Kolkata. Later, she moved to Bikramgarh where she allegedly procured forged Indian documents, including Aadhaar and voter ID cards, through a local agent.
Investigators found multiple fake IDs at her residence, including two Aadhaar cards—one with a Kolkata address and another from East Burdwan district—along with a ration card and voter ID. These documents were reportedly used to portray herself as a local Indian, allowing her to run a car rental business and attempt international travel under a false identity.
Police believe that Shanta’s motive was to use Indian documentation to visit other countries, which was more difficult with her Bangladeshi passport. Her Facebook food vlogging account, where she posted videos about Indian cuisine and lifestyle, is also being examined as part of her strategy to appear as an Indian citizen.

Authorities are now probing the network that helped her acquire the forged IDs. One social media post by her also allegedly exposed another individual possessing both Bangladeshi and Indian identification cards, leading police to suspect a wider document forgery ring operating in the area.
