Gunman Kills 6 at Bangkok Market in Latest Thailand Mass Shooting

Six people, including the gunman, were killed in a mass shooting at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market. The victims included four security guards and a woman. Authorities are investigating the motive and any potential links to regional tensions, as Thailand faces a growing wave of deadly gun violence.

A mass shooting at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market on Monday left six people dead, including the gunman, marking another tragic chapter in Thailand’s growing struggle with gun violence.

According to local reports, the incident unfolded in the busy fresh food market, located near the popular Chatuchak tourist area. Four of the victims were security guards employed at the market, while the remaining two fatalities included a woman and the shooter himself. Authorities confirmed the gunman took his own life shortly after opening fire.

The Erawan Emergency Medical Centre, which monitors Bangkok hospitals, verified the death toll and identities. Police have launched a full investigation to determine the shooter’s motive. While no clear link has been established yet, officials are also probing any possible connection to the ongoing border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.

Deputy Police Chief Worapat Sukthai stated that the situation is being treated as a mass shooting and that investigations are underway. The attack took place in a commercial zone frequently visited by both locals and tourists, heightening public fear.

This tragedy follows a pattern of increasingly frequent shootings across Thailand. Earlier this year in May, a separate shooting incident in U Thong District claimed three lives. In previous years, violent episodes at a Bangkok mall and a childcare centre in the northeast resulted in dozens of casualties.

Gun ownership laws in Thailand remain under scrutiny as public concern rises over access to firearms and lapses in security enforcement. The government has yet to issue an updated statement on reform plans following this latest incident.

The Or Tor Kor shooting adds to the growing list of public attacks that continue to test the country’s response to domestic violence and gun control challenges.
