England's cricket star Joe Root is under scrutiny for his unconventional shot in a recent Test match, labeled as the "stupidest shot" in English Test history. Despite this, former captain Ben Stokes firmly supports Root, highlighting his extensive experience and cricketing intelligence. Stokes believes Root's decision-making prowess deserves respect, given his remarkable track record in the sport.

Root's recent performance statistics have raised eyebrows, with 77 runs in six innings at an average of 12.83 and seven wickets in 107 overs. Despite these figures, Stokes stands by Root, acknowledging the challenges faced by even the best players. Root's struggle with the bat, particularly on batting-friendly pitches in India, has been a point of concern.

Criticism peaked when Root attempted a reverse scoop off Jasprit Bumrah and got caught at second slip. However, Stokes defends Root's choice, explaining the strategic thinking behind it. He suggests that Root's intention was to unsettle the bowler and alter field placements. Stokes attributes the dismissal to Bumrah's skill rather than questioning Root's decision-making.

Acknowledging the importance of Root's wicket in the match, Stokes admits its impact but refrains from doubting Root's abilities. He emphasizes Root's immense contribution to English cricket, with nearly 12,000 Test runs and 30 Test centuries. Stokes trusts Root's judgment on the field, dismissing any doubts about his form or decision-making.

Regarding concerns that Root's bowling responsibilities might affect his batting, Stokes dismisses them as unfounded. He commends Root's eagerness to contribute to various aspects of the game, highlighting his leadership qualities. Stokes believes Root's passion for the game and his knack for taking responsibility makes him a valuable asset to the team, both as a batsman and a bowler.
