A deceptive courier delivery scam in Mohali, Punjab, led Shefali Chaudhary to lose Rs 80,000. Scammers posed as delivery agents, extracting money by sending fake parcels and siphoning funds through malicious links.

A new fraudulent tactic, dubbed the "Courier Delivery Scam," has surfaced in India, causing financial distress to unsuspecting victims. Shefali Chaudhary from Mohali, Punjab, fell prey to this scam, losing a significant amount of Rs 80,000.

The modus operandi involves fraudsters impersonating legitimate delivery agents, manipulating victims with deceitful messages demanding a nominal payment of Rs 5 as "handling charges" to receive a supposed parcel. Shefali, thinking it a routine transaction, attempted to make the payment, only to witness a staggering loss of Rs 40,000 withdrawn twice from her bank account.

This scam operates by sending victims malicious links under the guise of delivery confirmation, resulting in unauthorized access to personal banking details and subsequent financial exploitation.

To safeguard oneself from falling victim to similar ploys:

Exercise Caution: Legitimate courier services do not request payments prior to delivering packages.

Verify Charges: Any legitimate charges are typically paid upon receipt of the parcel, not beforehand.
