BJP Legislators Ejected from Delhi Assembly Following Disruption Over Manipur Issue Debate
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday staged a protest outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office after four saffron party’s MLA were escorted out after vociferously objecting to the ongoing discourse surrounding the Manipur issue.
The quartet, consisting of Abhay Verma, Jitender Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar, and OP Sharma, found themselves forcibly removed from the assembly premises, igniting both internal and external uproar.
On the exterior of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's office, members of the Delhi BJP staged a protest as a direct response to the eviction of their party's MLAs.
Simultaneously, the four expelled legislators initiated a sit-in protest within the assembly area.
A video released by the ANI news agency depicted these MLAs brandishing placards while chanting slogans such as "Bhrashtachar ka dusra naam Kejriwal Kejriwal," which translates to "Kejriwal, another name for corruption."
OP Sharma, a BJP MLA, took aim at the Kejriwal-led Delhi government, asserting that corruption had permeated every facet of its operations. Sharma maintained that the issue concerning Manipur lies outside the purview of the Delhi Assembly, suggesting that the current administration is deflecting attention from local issues. He emphasized that the assembly's focus should be squarely on matters directly relevant to Delhi.
Vijendra Gupta, another BJP MLA, accused Arvind Kejriwal's regime of muzzling the voices of opposition and inhibiting critical conversations. Gupta contended that their demand for discussions encompassed the "Sheesh Mahal" case and other matters pertinent to Delhi.
In retaliation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) censured the BJP MLAs, branding their resistance to the Manipur discussion as a matter of shame. Durgesh Pathak, an AAP MLA, castigated the BJP for obstructing dialogues on the Manipur issue both within the Delhi Assembly and at the parliamentary level. Pathak underscored alleged instances of violence against women in Manipur, arguing that the BJP's intention was to suppress the issue.
Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla probed the motives behind the BJP MLAs' protest and their stance on debating the Manipur matter. Birla highlighted that even the Uttar Pradesh Assembly had engaged in discussions related to Manipur. As tensions escalate between BJP and AAP members, this situation paints a vivid picture of the ongoing political dynamics at play within the Delhi Assembly.
