Traffic snarls continued at the Delhi-Noida border due to barricading for farmers' protests demanding better land compensation. Led by Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, the march caused hours-long delays on key routes. With another farmers' march planned for December 6, authorities are on high alert to manage escalating tensions and public inconvenience.
Commuters faced massive traffic snarls for a second day on Tuesday at the Delhi-Noida border due to heightened security measures in response to the ongoing farmers' protest. The agitation, led by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), involves hundreds of farmers demanding land allocation and better compensation for government-acquired lands.
The protest began Monday at the Mahamaya Flyover on the Dadri-Noida link road, causing significant disruptions. Despite police barricades, farmers marched toward the Chilla border, a key entry point to Delhi, leading to hours-long traffic jams on major routes, including DND Flyway and Kalindi Kunj.
Protesters carrying banners crossed initial barricades, with some scaling them, until police halted the march near Dalit Prerna Sthal, approximately 1 km from the Chilla border. Senior police officers attempted to negotiate with the protesters.
The security setup led to severe delays for commuters. Aprajita Singh, a resident of Greater Noida, described the ordeal: "It took an hour to get through the Chilla border due to barricades." Amit Thakur, another commuter, opted for the metro after traffic apps showed severe congestion.
Adding to the tension, a separate farmers' group from Punjab, led by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political), has announced a march toward Delhi on December 6, heightening security concerns.
