The recent stabbing incident in India involving Lareb Hashmi, allegedly influenced by Maulana Khadim Hussain Rizvi's teachings, has connections to the radical group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). Rizvi, known for his fiery speeches and strong beliefs regarding blasphemy, holds an influence that transcends borders and ideologies. The incident, rooted in a fare dispute on an electric bus, showcased Hashmi's claims about blasphemy by the bus conductor, invoking Rizvi's teachings. The accused claimed that the conductor engaged in blasphemy against Muslims, citing Rizvi's ideologies while wielding weapons against the police during his arrest.

Maulana Khadim Hussain Rizvi, the leader of TLP, hails from Pakistan's Punjab province and was a former government employee. Known for his staunch following of Islamic theologian Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi, Rizvi gained popularity as a fervent speaker, drawing thousands to his sermons at the Pir Makki Mosque in Lahore. Rizvi's notoriety increased after opposing changes to blasphemy laws, which led to the assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer by Mumtaz Qadri, another Barelvi.

TLP's rise stemmed from Qadri's hanging, transforming from a movement seeking his release to a guardian of Prophet Muhammad's honor. The party vehemently protests any amendments to Pakistan's blasphemy laws. Rizvi's influence extended to high-profile protests against perceived blasphemy, including demands for the expulsion of the French ambassador and boycotts of French products.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenges related to blasphemy in Pakistan, where religious minorities frequently face allegations, leading to mob violence. Despite calls for amendments, recent legislative efforts in Pakistan have intensified blasphemy punishments, worsening religious freedom conditions, according to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom's 2023 report.
