In a tragic incident at Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens Stadium, the body of 21-year-old Dhananjay Barik was found hanging from one of the galleries. The police, investigating a possible case of suicide due to depression, disclosed that Dhananjay, unable to secure a job as a ground staff like his family members, might have been dealing with mental health issues. The family had earlier filed a missing complaint, adding to the mystery surrounding this sad event. This occurrence marks another unfortunate incident at Eden Gardens, previously highlighted by a fire during renovation work for the ODI World Cup matches.

Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens Stadium witnessed a distressing event as the body of a 21-year-old, Dhananjay Barik, was discovered hanging from one of its galleries. The Kolkata police initiated an investigation into the incident that occurred on Monday, December 18.

Dhananjay Barik, identified as the son of a ground staff member, was found by a caretaker at the stadium hanging from the upper tier of gallery K. The police disclosed that Dhananjay's distress might have stemmed from his inability to secure a job as part of the ground staff at Eden Gardens, a position held by his father and uncle.

"The deceased was possibly suffering from depression because he was not getting appointments as a ground staff at the Eden Gardens like his father and uncle, who are also employed there," a senior police official stated.

Amid speculation about suicide, investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances leading to this tragic discovery. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to gather further details.

Adding to the distressing nature of this incident, Dhananjay Barik's family had reported him missing to the Maidan Police Station a day before the discovery of his body.

This isn't the first time Eden Gardens has been in the news for tragic events. Previously, during the renovation work for the ODI World Cup matches, a fire broke out in the false ceiling of the players' dressing room, causing damage to playing equipment. The incident occurred while the stadium was preparing to host marquee matches for the World Cup, including the highly anticipated second semi-final between Australia and South Africa, where Australia emerged victorious.
