In response to recent speculations, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has dismissed claims that the trailer for "72 Hoorain" was denied certification, clarifying that the matter is currently undergoing the necessary procedures.
The alleged refusal of a censor certificate for the film's trailer sparked discussions surrounding creative freedom and censorship.
Ashoke Pandit, one of the film's co-producers, had previously stated that the censor board declined to certify the movie's trailer, slated for release on July 7.
Addressing the situation, the CBFC stated, "Misleading reports have been circulating in certain sections of the media, claiming that a film and its trailer titled 'Bahattar Hoorain (72 Hoorain)' was refused certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In contrast to these reports, the CBFC asserts that the film 'Bahattar Hoorain (72 Hoorain)' was granted an 'A' certification, with the certificate being issued on 4-10-2019."
Pavan Malhotra and Aamir Bashir shine in the leading roles of the thought-provoking film helmed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, which delves into the far-reaching repercussions of violent extremism. Recognizing the director's exceptional vision, the film garnered the prestigious National Film Award for Best Direction in 2021.
According to the CBFC, the filmmakers formally submitted the trailer for certification on June 19, adhering to the guidelines outlined in Section 5B(2) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. After a meticulous examination process, the applicant was requested to provide necessary documentary submissions, which were duly received and reviewed. Subsequently, the certification was granted with certain modifications in place.
A show cause notice was issued to the applicant/filmmaker on 27-6-2023, outlining the required modifications. The applicant's response/compliance to the notice is currently pending, indicating that the matter is still under due process. Therefore, any dissemination of misleading reports regarding this subject should be avoided, as the official proceedings are ongoing, as stated in the note.
"72 Hoorain" made its esteemed premiere in the Indian Panorama section at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where it was honored with the ICFT-UNESCO GANDHI MEDAL Special Mention, further cementing its significance and impact.
Recently, influential religious and political figures in Kashmir expressed their concerns over the depiction of Muslims in the film "72 Hoorain", highlighting that it has the potential to offend the sentiments of the community. The movie, produced by Saarthie Entertainment and Aliens Pictures, carries the creative prowess of writers Anil Pandey and Junaid Wasi.
