A tragic mass shooting at Campus Risbergska school in Örebro, Sweden, has left ten people dead, including the suspected gunman. The attack, described as the deadliest school shooting in Swedish history, occurred on Tuesday afternoon, causing widespread panic and forcing students to barricade themselves inside classrooms.

The school, located 200 kilometres west of Stockholm, serves adult students and offers various educational programs, including vocational training and courses for immigrants. Swedish authorities stated that the suspect acted alone and had no known links to criminal activity or terrorism.

Local police chief Roberto Eid Forest noted that extensive damage at the crime scene has made it difficult for investigators to determine the exact cause of the attack. Authorities expect the death toll to rise as some victims remain in critical condition.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, with one teacher estimating at least ten rounds fired. Many students were evacuated and taken to a nearby shelter, while emergency responders worked to secure the area.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called the attack a "very painful day for all of Sweden" and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer confirmed that the government is closely monitoring the situation and working with law enforcement.

The police are currently treating the case as an attempted murder, arson, and an aggravated weapons offence. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack, as Sweden grapples with the aftermath of one of its darkest days in recent history.
