Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin initiated a resolution in the Assembly to reconsider 10 bills rejected by Governor RN Ravi. The dispute over withheld assent, allegedly without reasons, led to a heated debate, marking the latest in the ongoing standoff between the state government and the Governor.
Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has brought forth a resolution in the state
Assembly to reassess 10 bills that were previously passed by the House but
returned by Governor R N Ravi. This move follows the Governor's refusal to
provide assent to the bills, creating a contentious deadlock between the
executive and legislative bodies.
Stalin's
resolution highlighted that the Governor, without specifying reasons, withheld
assent to the bills. Referring to Article 200 of the Indian Constitution
acknowledges that re-passing the bills and submitting them to the Governor
mandates his approval without withholding assent.
The Chief Minister criticized the Governor's actions, accusing him of obstructing governmental initiatives without valid reasons. Stalin condemned the alleged undemocratic stance of denying assent, citing personal preferences over the bills passed by the Assembly.

The
ongoing conflict between non-BJP-ruled states and Governors, seemingly
influenced by the central government, was emphasized by Stalin. This action
comes after the Governor had previously returned bills and delayed decisions on
pending legislative matters, leading to tensions between the ruling DMK regime
and the Raj Bhavan.
The
Supreme Court's recent involvement highlighted concerns over the Governor's
delay in granting assent to bills passed by the Assembly. The Court addressed
the delay as a serious issue and sought the Centre's response to the state
government's accusations of the Raj Bhavan deliberately stalling 12 bills and
other legislative decisions.
