Congress workers celebrated with sweets after early trends showed the party leading in Haryana’s assembly elections. However, the BJP soon surged ahead, leading in 47 seats to Congress' 36. Key constituencies like Julana and Rania saw intense battles, while Congress leader Jagdish Sharma credited Rahul Gandhi's efforts for their early lead.
In a dramatic turn of events, Congress workers began distributing sweets in celebration after early trends in the Haryana assembly elections showed the party leading. However, their celebrations were short-lived as the BJP soon overtook them in the race for seats.
Early on Tuesday morning, Congress leader Jagdish Sharma and party workers distributed ‘laddoos’ outside the party’s Delhi office, accompanied by the beats of ‘dhol’ and slogans in support of the party. Social media was abuzz with videos of the celebration, with Sharma declaring the party’s victory imminent and comparing the festive mood to the taste of victory.
Sharma expressed confidence, crediting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for resonating with the people of Haryana through initiatives like the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Nyay Yatra. He emphasized that Rahul Gandhi's advocacy for farmers, women, and laborers had garnered widespread support, and predicted that the Congress would win both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir.
However, as of 10:45 am, the Election Commission reported that the BJP had taken the lead, securing 47 seats compared to Congress’ 36 in the 90-member Haryana assembly.

Several key constituencies in Haryana have witnessed intense political battles. In Julana, Congress’ Vinesh Phogat, a renowned wrestler, is pitted against AAP’s Kavita Dalal and BJP’s professional pilot candidate, Yogesh Bairagi. In Ladwa, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is contesting a high-stakes election, while the Bagri-dominated Rania seat sees veteran politician Ranjit Singh Chautala fight to retain his seat as an independent. The Rewari seat, historically influenced by dynasty politics, is also a battleground for the Yadav community.
Despite the Congress' early optimism, the BJP’s ability to quickly overturn their lead demonstrates the unpredictable nature of this election.
