COVID-19 Cases Soars in Delhi:-
The Capital Region of India, New Delhi, recorded 484 new cases of COVID-19 with a positivity rate of 26.58% on Monday. As per reports, about one in every four people tested positive while checking for the Covid-19 virus.
Three people who were suffering from COVID-19 died, although the disease was not the primary cause of death, as per sources. The city's COVID-19 tally rose to 20,15,121, and the death toll stands at 26,543.
Delhi has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks amidst a sharp rise in H3N2 influenza cases in the country. The Health Department reported that 151 of the 7,940 beds in the cities devoted to COVID hospitals are occupied, and 1,715 patients are in home isolation and quarantine, with the number of active cases currently standing at 2,338.
Medical experts suggest that the virus's new XBB.1.16 variant could be driving the surge, but they have maintained that there is no need to panic. People should follow COVID-appropriate behavior and get booster shots or vaccines. They also believe that the rise in the number of cases could be the result of more people getting themselves tested for COVID-19 as a precaution when they actually are infected with the influenza virus and suffer from fever and related symptoms.
The Indian Council of Medical Research located in New Delhi has inferred that the escalation in the incidence of influenza cases in India can be attributed to the Influenza A viral subtype H3N2, which is leading to more people getting hospitalized than the other subtypes. The symptoms of the H3N2 virus include a runny nose, persistent Cough, and fever, much like that of Covid-19.
