Day 6 Update: Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse Sees 25-Meter Rubble Clearance

Ongoing efforts persist in rescuing 40 trapped labourers in Uttarakhand's tunnel collapse. Workers drilled 25 meters into the rubble, aiming for 60 meters. Food, water, and oxygen supply continue as the government mobilizes resources for a swift rescue operation, engaging national and international expertise.

Rescue operations continue relentlessly in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel collapse tragedy. Using powerful machinery, workers have drilled 25 meters through debris, inching closer to the 40 trapped labourers after the collapse that occurred on November 12. Anshu Manish Khalkho, NHIDCL Director, detailed the arduous process, indicating the necessity of drilling up to 60 meters to create an escape passage. The trapped workers have been sustained with essential supplies, ensuring their safety while communication efforts maintain their morale.

Union Minister VK Singh emphasized the collective efforts of governmental agencies, affirming the commitment to swift rescue measures. He highlighted the priority to expedite the operation within two to three days, leveraging advanced machinery and international expertise. The collapsed tunnel, a critical link on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway, has prompted an intensive and urgent rescue operation involving continuous drilling and supply of necessities to the confined labourers.

The state emergency operation centre in Silkyara reported progress with 25 meters drilled while underscoring the challenging accumulation of debris 270 meters into the tunnel. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela confirmed the safety of the trapped labourers and the sustenance of essential supplies.

The situation remains critical, prompting a unified and accelerated effort to extricate the trapped workers from their confined space. As efforts intensify and resources are mobilized, the focus remains steadfast on rescuing the trapped labourers at the earliest possible moment.
