Congress, post-MP Assembly poll defeat analysis, primarily attributes loss to EVM malfunctions and internal sabotage. The review meeting, involving 164 unsuccessful nominees, underscores the urgency to address these issues before the impending Lok Sabha elections. Identified concerns revolve around alleged discrepancies in EVM battery backups and internal factionalism.
In
the wake of their defeat in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Congress
held a review meeting. During this six-hour-long session, 164 unsuccessful
Congress nominees dissected the reasons behind their loss. They primarily
attributed their defeat to alleged malfunctions in the Electronic
Voting Machines (EVMs). Some candidates also asserted that "internal
sabotage" within the party ranks significantly contributed to the debacle.
Chairing the extensive review meeting was Jitu Patwari, the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief, who himself suffered a substantial loss in the election. The candidates who attended the meeting emphasized the urgency of addressing the perceived flaws in the electoral process. They highlighted that focusing on rectifying these issues was crucial, especially with the impending Lok Sabha elections.

A
vocal concern raised by the participants was the discrepancy in the battery
backup of the EVMs. They alleged that areas, where Congress faced defeat,
recorded a strikingly high 99% battery backup, while regions where their candidates
secured victories only showed a 74% backup. This incongruity raised eyebrows,
especially considering the timeframe between the election day and the vote
count.
Beyond
the EVM debacle, some defeated contestants also pointed fingers at intra-party
factionalism. They stressed the necessity of dealing with these internal
divisions promptly, especially given the looming Lok Sabha elections.
This introspection comes in the aftermath of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, where the BJP remarkably secured 28 out of 29 parliamentary seats in Madhya Pradesh. The urgency to address these issues was emphasized, with only a few months left before the critical national elections.
