Delhi Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal late on Thursday night on corruption charges related to the liquor case.

Delhi chief minister Kejriwal arrested in liquor graft case

In the whole history of India's independence, no chief minister has ever been arrested while holding office. Kejriwal was found guilty after he claimed that the nine summonses from the investigative agency were unlawful and ignored them.

The AamAadmi Party (AAP) filed a lawsuit late yesterday about the Chief Minister's arrest; the Supreme Court will take up the case today. The AAP's legal team discovered that the highest court will hear the case first thing in the morning after racing to the Registrar's home in the hopes of arranging a hearing late at night.

In response to the AAP's demand for stateside protests, Bhagwant Mann and other senior party officials have arrived in the nation's capital. Numerous political groups have expressed their opposition to the arrest. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, made a sly jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he said, "A scared dictator wants to create a dead democracy." In a statement directed towards the BJP-run central government, Minister Atishi of the AamAadmi Party (AAP) declared that Kejriwal would continue to hold the office of chief minister while incarcerated.

When Kejriwal said that he would rule the government from behind bars, BJP leaders asked that he step down, citing constitutional violations. Virendra Sachdeva, the President of the Delhi BJP, stated that the arrest of Kejriwal has made the people of Delhi happy.

Since the beginning of the liquor controversy in Delhi in 2021, more information regarding the money-laundering activities of brokers and liquor contractors has come to light one after the other. He declared that with Kejriwal's arrest today, the nearly year-long drama has finally come to a conclusion.

BJP party officials also demanded the chief minister's resignation, arguing that the government could not lawfully function from prison.
