The Delhi government has unveiled a 21-point Winter Action Plan to combat pollution, featuring work-from-home policies, an odd-even vehicle scheme, and enhanced monitoring through drones. The initiative aims to improve air quality amid high pollution levels expected during the winter months.
In a proactive move to address the persistent air quality issues plaguing the capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government has introduced a detailed 21-point Winter Action Plan. Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced the plan, which includes emergency measures aimed at curbing pollution in the city. Among these measures are recommendations for work-from-home (WFH) policies and the potential implementation of an odd-even vehicle scheme during periods of high pollution.
Rai emphasized the theme of this year’s initiative: “Mil Kar Chale, Pradushan Se Lade,” translating to “Together, Let’s Fight Pollution.” The government will deploy drones to monitor high-pollution areas in real time, allowing for a targeted response to identified pollution hotspots. To combat dust pollution, the use of anti-smog guns will be increased, and a robust anti-dust campaign will be launched alongside the deployment of road-sweeping machines across the city.

Additionally, the plan includes a strict ban on firecrackers, which will be enforced as soon as the official notification is issued. The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) stages will also be activated, with 588 teams set to oversee the control of open garbage burning.
With pollution levels expected to spike around Diwali and due to stubble burning in neighboring states, the Delhi government is also exploring the feasibility of artificial rain to improve air quality. A special task force has been established to continuously monitor pollution levels and facilitate timely interventions as needed. This comprehensive approach reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing air quality and protecting public health.
