Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump on February 13, 2025, during his visit to Washington DC. Modi will arrive in the US on the evening of February 12 after completing his trip to France. The meeting is expected to involve discussions on bilateral relations, with Trump potentially hosting a dinner in Modi's honor.

This visit comes after their first phone call since Trump took office, where the two leaders expressed their intent to deepen cooperation. During the call, Trump emphasized the importance of India purchasing more US-made security equipment and pursuing a fairer trade relationship. The issue of trade, particularly with India’s tariff policies and energy purchases, is expected to be a key topic.

In addition to the dinner, Modi's visit is likely to focus on reinforcing technological cooperation and strengthening military interoperability between the two nations. Talks regarding India’s defense acquisitions and potential adjustments to export control regulations are also on the agenda. Both leaders are expected to discuss India’s role in the Quad, a strategic alliance with the US, Japan, and Australia.

While the meeting will serve as an important diplomatic engagement, the lack of senior personnel in key US positions for India relations, such as the assistant secretary of state for South Asia, could limit the scope of concrete agreements. However, the visit aims to solidify the personal rapport between the two leaders and outline future priorities for the India-US relationship.
